Unique Cat, Unique Cat Furniture
Cats can be intelligent and generous companions, but just like any animal kept as a pet, they require proper stimulation and exercise to be truly happy. Cats need to scratch, play, and hide. They love to jump and snooze on high perches. Many cat furniture products are available today to ensure that you and your kitty can live together comfortably.
Kittycat, kittycat, leave that chair alone!
So you adore your Abyssinian, but feel betrayed when the little guy decides to shred your slipper chair. Manufacturers today are creating unique cat furniture to complement your home and tame the cat. Stropping is the scientific name for that scratching action that drives you bonkers when not done on proper cat furniture. Cats do this for three reasons:
1. Claw maintenance
People often say that cats need to "sharpen their claws," but the action is more accurately described as a sort of shedding of claws. When cats scratch cat furniture or cat posts, they leave the outer layer of claw behind. Choose cat furniture that includes wood and carpet or sisal in its design. Quality need not be sacrificed when choosing unique cat furniture products, and the tougher the tree, the more beneficial it will be to your cat's claw maintenance.
2. Exercise
Just as rock climbers hone the important muscles in their forearms, cats need to build strength as well. Catching prey, fighting rivals, and climbing are all important cat activities. Choose unique cat furniture that is specific to your cats' needs. High, powerful jumper? Make sure the cat furniture product you select has a wide, sturdy base. Many cats of different ages? Make sure your cat furniture has many levels and hideouts.
3. Marking territory
Cats' paws contain scent glands that allow the cat to mark their territory while scratching. If your cat has a particular fondness for your favorite chair, it's probably because it smells like you. (Try this once you purchase new cat furniture: Drape an article of your clothing over a post of the furniture. It helps your cat identify it as yours and his.)
